During this challenging time, our organization stands with federal employees and contractors impacted by the ongoing government shutdown. We recognize the uncertainty many families are facing, and we’re here to help.
Each day of a government shutdown costs the average federal worker an average of $290—a powerful reminder of how urgently families need stability and support in uncertain times.
We’re launching a new relief initiative to ensure that no one in our community goes without essential support. Starting this week, we’ve dedicated weekday and weekend time slots exclusively for federal employees and contractors to visit our food pantry.
Weekdays & Weekends:
Visit during our scheduled hours to receive fresh groceries and pantry staples. On weekends, you can also drive up for easy, contactless food pickup.
Additional Support:
Diapers will be available for families who need them during every distribution day.
Special Distribution Sunday, November 23rd from 9AM - 3PM
Join us for a Special Distribution Day on Sunday, November 23rd from 9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. at our Food Rescue Bank at 4924 Wyaconda Rd, North Bethesda, MD where impacted federal employees and contractors can pick up fresh food and supplies.

Dedicated Distributions Every Wednesday
So What Else is hosting weekly food distributions for federal employees and contractors affected by the government shutdown. Distributions take place every Wednesday at 6011 Executive Blvd, Rockville, MD.
No appointment is needed; however, participants must present a valid federal ID badge upon arrival. Each week, eligible federal workers can receive fresh groceries and essential household items at no cost.
Please share this information with any federal employees or contractors who may need support during this time.
This initiative will continue until the federal shutdown is resolved. No one should face this hardship alone — we’re here to help you get through it together.
If you or someone you know is affected, please share this information and make an appointment for a pickup time.
Together, we’ll weather this moment and ensure every family has what they need.
As many federal employees face uncertainty during the shutdown, So What Else is stepping up to provide meals, groceries, and essential items to impacted families. You can make a direct difference by donating today, your contribution helps us rent an additional refrigerated truck, increase staffing, and deliver thousands of meals to families in need across our region.
We’re also gratefully accepting food donations at our Rockville warehouse, located at 4924 Wyaconda Road, Rockville, MD 20852. Items like non perishable food and fresh meat, dairy, and produce will be accepted. Donations can be dropped off Monday–Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Sunday, November 23rd from 9AM to 3 PM for a Special Distribution Day. Every box of food, every dollar, and every hour volunteered helps ensure no family goes hungry during this time.
